When a couple receives the news that they will be parents, they experience great emotion and happiness; hearts are filled with joy, hope and illusions. Everyone changes and the arrival of the new member of the family is eagerly awaited. That happens when we know that a little one is coming. Imagine when the news is that they are two beautiful babies! Happiness and blessing is doubled.

The care for the mother increases when two children are expected, visits with the specialist are of the utmost importance, to know the state of health. A story that is the example of bravery, was made known to us by Little Things

The couple Jayde and Marcus received the wonderful news that identical twins were expecting. Everything was going excellent, until the 16th week of pregnancy, when the specialist gave them a devastating diagnosis.

The twins suffered from twin to twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS), a rare condition that occurs while they are in the womb. It occurs when the blood supply from one twin is passed to the other twin through the shared placenta. The baby who loses blood is called a donor and the one who receives it is called a recipient.

Twins can have problems depending on the amount of blood that is passed from one to the other. One of them may be left with little blood and the other may have a lot. One of the twins is usually smaller at birth, will be anemic, dehydrated, and appear pale. Quite the opposite of the other, who will be born large with reddened skin, too much blood and high blood pressure, causing heart failure.

A very difficult decision to make

The condition of the little twins was putting their hearts at risk. The specialists told the parents that the babies could die, without completing the gestation. One of the solutions was to perform laser surgery that was very risky.

The parents affected by the news, only hoping for a miracle, signed the acceptance contract that the hospital gives them, to define responsibilities since it was possible to lose the lives of the babies.

The surgery occurs in real time on an ultrasound screen where the procedure can be viewed. A needle was inserted into the belly through the amniotic sac of one of the twins, to cut the blood vessels by means of a laser, so that each of them could receive its own blood supply.

The risk was if the laser touched one of the babies, it could die immediately.

An excellent decision full of fear
